The Challenge

Kathleen, an accomplished vintner, approached us to rebrand her winery and wine label, Libelle. At the time, her brand featured a single variety—Grüner Veltliner—which had already made waves, winning Best in Class at the 2021 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. She wanted a refined, professional brand identity that honored both her personal story and the essence of her wine. More than just a label, she envisioned a work of art—something so beautiful that people would be inspired to gift her wine to others.

The Solution

Libelle, meaning “dragonfly” in French, is a tribute to Kathleen’s grandmother and childhood memories. She envisioned a brand that would evoke the same feelings her wines inspire—freshness, nostalgia, and a sense of countryside serenity.

Our approach included:

  • Brand strategy and shelf analysis to ensure the label would stand out in a competitive market.
  • A minimalist logomark with a touch of Provençal country charm, allowing the artwork to take center stage.
  • A hand-painted watercolor dragonfly, layered with delicate flecks of gold foil to mimic the shimmer of dragonfly wings in sunlight.
  • A uniquely curved label design, adding a tactile, elegant distinction from standard rectangular wine labels.
  • A hand-painted watercolor landscape of Grand Valley, Colorado—the vineyard’s home—capturing its crisp blue skies, green grapevines, and striking red rock formations. This inspired the brand’s color palette, grounding it in the region’s natural beauty.

The result? A visually stunning, story-rich brand that brings Libelle’s essence to life—elevating Kathleen’s wine from a well-loved variety to an unforgettable experience, perfect for gifting and celebrating life’s special moments.
